  • The beginning of time: Coffee

This is the epic of the beverage that shares its birthplace with our ancestors.

  • The Monopoly: 16th Century:

Legend has it that the Arabs in the 1600’s were very conservative of their coffee bean. The spread of coffee was controlled. There was not a lot of it to supply the demand. As all supply and demand stories circled, the prices went way up.People lost lives if found in possession of coffee beans.

  • The Indian Connection: 1696

Anyhow, the price got so high that only those Europeans rich enough to afford exotic luxuries could drink coffee. But things were about to change. Thanks to an Indian. In 1670, Baba Budan, an Indian pilgrim, bound seven coffee beans stitched in his belly and sneaked them out of Arabia and into India. When Baba Budan reached home, he found a cave in the hills near chickmagalur in south India in which he started the coffee seedlings off.

  • Baba Budan and the Seven Beans:

Later he planted coffee in the jungles near Chickmagalur and, thus coffee came to India. Baba Budans crop wrested the monopoly on coffee production from the hands of the Arabs and started the global spread of coffee cultivation. In honor of Baba Budan, the highest mountain peaks between the Himalayas and the Nilgiris are named as Baba Budangiri.

Baba Budan is considered a holy saint. Tomb of Baba Budan is housed in a cave on the Baba Budan Ranges of chickmagalur district. The cave is considered sacred by the Hindus and the Muslims of Chickmagalur. When are you visiting to pray your worships to the holy Baba Budan?

  • Seven Beans and the celebration of life:

Thus, our little coffee shop is named in honor of these legendary Seven Beans. For if not for the mythical seven beans that crossed its journey from Mecca to India: A celebrated part of history, without which coffee may not have advanced as it did. It all happened in India. It all happened because of an Indian.Seven Beans is all about this celebration of happiness and prosperity.
